From the San Francisco Book Review: One of the joys of reading collections is getting a better sense of an author’s range. In this instance, Strange Ladies offers everything you could possibly want, from more traditional science fiction and fantasy tropes to thought-provoking explorations of gender issues and pleasing postmodern humor. In each of the stories, we meet a very different woman. In “The Oniomancer,” Chinadoll is the protagonist. She has come through an unfortunate childhood to an adult life which is slightly more accommodating but still judgmental when she “finds” things in the places she’s passing through. “Guardian” features a slightly older woman who’s just taken the big financial step of buying her own home, while “Felicitas” wonders how a werecat should react to the toms when she comes into heat. “Stripper” is an elegant time manipulation story which challenges the stereotypical feminist view of exotic dancing and motherhood, while “Triad” offers a beautifully realized exploration of gender roles when an estranged couple and their child are reunited. “Destination” starts well as a horror story, and “Transformation and the Postmodern Identity Crisis” tells us in gory detail what’s happened to all the major characters in Alice in Wonderland. This is a must-read collection. Reviewed by David Marshall

Five stars on Facebook, Goodreads, and Amazon! “Great work, Lisa Mason!”

“Hilarious, provocative, profound.”

From Jeanne-Mary Allen, Author on Facebook and the BookBrothers Blog: “Kyle Wylde and I are thrilled to have found such a talented, dedicated, and brilliant collection of shorts in Strange Ladies. Who are your literary influences? Your style/craft is highly impressive.”

Lisa Mason’s reply: “Thank you, Jeanne-Mary and Kyle! I’ve read across all genres and authors. I loved early William Gibson and Edith Wharton, Ursula K. LeGuin and Rudyard Kipling. E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web is still one of my favorites and P.L. Travers’ Mary Poppins, which is beautifully written. Anne Rice has been an influence and Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind remains a terrific read. Always searching for exciting new stylists who can also tell a great story!”
